Margaret Gurney - Dip Art/Grad Dip Com. Ed/Dev

A love of drawing and painting has been a natural part of Margaret's life from her earliest days.  Her contemporary style continues to develop, emphasising strong shapes, form and glowing, intuitive colour.  She is versatile, working in oils, watercolours, mixed media and drawing.

Her study of art has been continuous; Graphic Design at Swinburne, Post Graduate Community Education, Art Study tours of the Mediterranean, Europe, Egypt, Isreal, North America and Asia.  Margaret worked as a graphic designer, an art director, a lecturer and an Arts Education Manager.

Throughout a life of painting, she has exhibited widely in group and solo exhibitions in Victoria and more recently America.

Her work is represented in numerous private collections in Australia and overseas, she is an exhibiting member of C.A.S., V.A.S., Beaumaris and Mentone Artists Societies, and is also represented in the National Museum of Women in the Arts, Washington, Archival file and the Women's Art Register Melbourne.

Born into an artistic family, she is the daughter of Australian war artist Alex Gurney, creator of the legendary 'Bluey and Curley' cartoon. As a mother of two children she freelanced as time allowed and it was during that period she established and co-ordinated the Templestowe Community Arts Centre for the City of Doncaster and Templestowe and was a founding member of the Community Arts Network.

She paints with a deep passion and for the sheer love of such a creative outlet.  A burst of colour and light to inspire, delight and remember is what she hopes her paintings give to people.
